Beginning this week, students in the Great Lakes Bay Region may apply for the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Regional Scholarship. Applications are due Oct. 30.
The scholarships are awarded to Bay, Midland and Saginaw County high school seniors, regardless of ethnicity, who actively embrace King’s dream of improving racial harmony and social justice.
“The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Regional Scholarship looks to identify students who recognize and promote cultural diversity, which is so important in today’s world,” said Reneé Johnston, president and CEO of the Saginaw Community Foundation. “It’s amazing to see how many young people in our region live by Dr. King’s vision.”
The scholarship award(s) will be at least $1,000 and are non-renewable. The scholarship award(s) will be presented at the annual Great Lakes Bay Regional Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration program to be held on Jan. 15, 2014 at Saginaw Valley State University.
