Scott A. Amman, PhD, was raised in Chesaning, Mich. and graduated from Chesaning High School. Upon graduation, Scott entered college at Michigan Technological University, working towards a degree in Electrical Engineering. Scott, then transferred to Lawrence Technological University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. While working at Ford Motor Company as an Electrical Engineer, Scott attended evening classes at the University of Michigan’s Engineering School to earn a Master’s in Electrical Engineering. Scott earned his Doctorate in Systems Engineering from Oakland University. Scott had a lifelong love of learning and the sciences.
Scott had an extraordinary career and became known as a specialist in his field throughout the United States and internationally. At Ford Motor Company Scott became a Technical Specialist, which was a position at Ford that few held. Twice he earned the Henry Ford Technology Award, an elite award given to the best of Ford Motor Company and he, along with his team, has over 20 patent awards with numerous patents pending.
As a hobby, Scott enjoyed woodworking, metal work and was a true handyman. In addition, he loved coaching his children’s (Ariel and Jared) cross country and basketball teams as well as being the scout leader and eventually Scout Master of his son Jared’s cub scout and boy scout troop. Scott thoroughly enjoyed mentoring the next generation whether it was through sports, scouts or even science and technology fairs and programs.
To honor his memory, his wife Julie and his children have established the Dr. Scott Amman Memorial Scholarship to continue his legacy for fostering the next generation’s love of STEM fields or technical/trade fields.
