Larry A. Coulouris Memorial Scholarship

Larry was born on June 13, 1925, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada but has lived in Saginaw for six decades. Larry served in the Canadian Navy as a radio telegrapher and then attended McGill University in Montreal. After arriving in Saginaw, Larry worked for 45 years in the hospitality business as owner and operator of Larry’s Lounge in downtown Saginaw. He retired in 2002.

Larry was elected to the Saginaw Charter Commission in November 2004 but resigned in 2005 to run for a seat on the Saginaw City Council. Larry was elected that year and has served until he resigned in 2016. During his time on city council, Larry was appointed Mayor Pro Tem from 2007-16. At the time of Larry’s resignation, he was also serving on the Saginaw Downtown Development Authority, Downtown Saginaw Association, and the Planning Commission. He was instrumental in bringing OHL hockey to Saginaw in 2002 and worked as a supporter of various minor league hockey teams in Saginaw since the 1970s. An avid hockey player himself, he played in three Senior Olympic Games and skated until the age of 88.
