Thomas Tilot was known throughout the community as a leader. He was involved in the Saginaw Public Schools from the time he graduated from the original Saginaw High School in 1950, to the time he was first elected to the school board in 1987, and until his death in 2000. Thomas served as board president from 1992-1995 and was a leader of the Building & Grounds Committee. He was a frequent visitor to school events and volunteered as an elementary reading tutor.
Thomas was married to Patricia for 48 years and together they raised eight children. As a retired ironworker, he was a strong supporter of hands-on, applied learning and in preparing all students for careers after high school.
The Thomas Spencer Tilot, Sr., Memorial Scholarship was established to support students who will pursue vocational or technical training beyond high school.
